PATCHWORK SERIES 1/3 // Into Carry Upcycling

PATCHWORK SERIES 1/3 // Into Carry Upcycling

Many of us have memories of watching someone in our family, a generation or two wiser, work miracles on damaged textiles. Whether it was a needle and thread fixing holes in socks, or a sewing machine bringing hole-ridden jeans back to life. The good news is, these acts may seem like miracles, but the skills and equipment to perform them are more accessible than we think (and more fun).

Over the last 50 years, sewing has lost its place in many households, but with our current waste crisis, it’s never been more important. The bag below is the first in a series of three bags to highlight how accessible learning to sew and repairing garments can be.

With nothing more than a domestic sewing machine and some textile scraps, we’ve applied two patchwork techniques (machine repair & patch creation) to strengthen the damaged material and add some much needed style in the process.
This bag will be available for sale with its two companions at 12pm Friday the 30th July on our website. And if you want to learn more about acquiring or growing your sewing skills, head to our classes page to see the latest intake dates.
