Open-minded learning
Waste comes in all shapes, states and sizes... this can narrow possibilities OR it can open opportunities. Every material has underlying beauty, the art of upcycling is identifying and showcasing what others overlook.
We cannot successfully work with existing materials using existing processes. In nearly a decade of upcycling we’ve made thousands of bags, yet the most valuable outcome is not a product, it’s a process.
Build you own adventure
Our process is not a rigid rulebook. It’s a series of adaptable guidelines that empower creative problem solving at every step. This approach deepens our learning and allows us to move through the same course guidelines with different materials to yield new creative product outcomes.
This opens up our creative process to experiment, try new things and freely move through the making process unattached to the outcome. Sometimes the result surprises us in a good way, sometimes less so, but the process is where we progress.

Don't upcycle in a silo
If you're like me, you began upcycling in a bedroom, occasionally mustering the courage to ask a random factory if they’re throwing out their truck tubes. The solo pursuit can be overwhelming but the good news is... there's a shitload of us weirdos out there who share a common cause and creative interest: making cool stuff from materials someone else threw out.
Each learning from Into Carry is hosted on our free-to-join community platform: INTO. You can jump on there, have a poke around and connect with other upcycling enthusiasts around the globe. All learnings sit on your profile so you can access them again and again, all in one place, forever 'n' ever.
Upcycling Tutorials
Learning style one: Upcycling Tutorials. These learning modules focus on creating new materials for a variety of upcycling projects. From our Pressing Soft Plastic tutorial to our Advanced Reverse Appliqué, these learnings are simple, easy to follow and help us take low-value materials like scraps and packaging and turn them into functional, beautiful new materials. These learnings do not include any patterns or bag construction notes... they come next...
Bag Making Courses
We currently have our two best bag making frameworks available as online learnings options. Each of these courses follows different sample products through the bag making framework to provide context and information on the learnings and decision made at each step.
Each course is designed to provide new learnings and values each time you work through it. This hopefully opens up our creative process to experiment, try new things and freely move through the making process unattached to the outcome. Cause that's when the juicy stuff comes out! Sometimes the result surprises us in a good way, sometimes less so, but the process is where we progress. The more times we move through it, the better each outcome will be.

Upcycling learning formats
Each of us learn best in different ways. We run multiple upcycling classes from our studio in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia. Plus the online learnings are delivered with a combination of visual, written and video recorded tutorials (including captions).
