Learn fundamental bag sewing and construction techniques so you can turn discarded materials into carry wear. After covering several methods and techniques, you design, pattern and create your own shoulder bag. Personalise the size, shape, pockets and strap to your liking. Then! You'll have the skills to do it again and again and again. 

BAGS & CREATIVE OUTCOMES: We cover several sewing techniques and two methods of bag construction. Then we guide you through the design thinking and decision making processes to turn one-off waste materials into functional carry wear. 

• Technique samples to get the most out of discarded materials. 
• Your personalised shoulder bag / handbag (whichever you decide!) 

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Over the five weeks you learn the following skills:

• Sewing fundamentals (if you've never sewn before)
• Textile upcycling basics
• Design thinking (maximising value from one-off waste items)
• Basic bag pattern making skills
• Textile finishing techniques (seam options)
• Bag lining techniques
• Strap design and finishing
• Pocket design and construction  
  

CLASS FORMAT: Each week consists of one two hour class, for five weeks. Each class focuses on a different learning outcome so you can continue to tackle waste with your own projects at home.

• Class runs 6.30pm-8.30pm 
• 5 Weeks of 2 hour classes
• No prior sewing skills required (although plz tell us if you've never sewn before)
  
• We have an abundance of waste here but BYO waste material is welcomed
• Each student will have their own sewing machine to practice on

WHO IT'S FOR: Whether you are curious about upcycling or you're a seasoned veteran, this course is designed for all skill levels to thrive. Each class has two teachers guiding you through the processes but you're in control of how much detail and complexity you want to include. It's your design (how exciting). 

THE NUMBERS: Included in the $370 ticket is five weeks of classes, valued at $140 per class, hardware for strap connections bag closures, total value of $700 for $370. 

All leftover textiles and offcuts are externally recycled with UPPAREL.

Cancellations. We offer a refund policy up until 7 days prior to the semester starting. If the cancellation is within this 7 day window, we will release the ticket and refund your amount pending it's resale. No refunds will be processed once the semester has started.
